Dr Shawn Sette’s
Dr Shawn Sette grew up in West Newton, PA. He attended undergraduate college at Penn State University and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. He started his career in emergency medicine at the Kanawha Valley Animal Emergency Hospital. Along with his wife, Jennifer, he purchased and has managed Hurricane Animal Hospital since 1998. Dr Sette’s greatest joys come from the fun moments, silly pranks and jokes with his clients. He is an amazing surgeon and spends most of his time working in our surgery suites, but you can also commonly find him on the tractor or mower doing “yard work”. He is an excellent teacher and mentor and spends many hours working with pre-veterinary, and veterinary students from WV. In addition to his work here, Dr Sette has served on the WV Veterinary Medical Association for over 10 years and is currently serving on the WV Board of Veterinary Medicine. Dr Sette and Jennifer have raised two children “in the hospital” and currently have 4 dogs at home (2 Labradors, a Pug, and a French Bulldog). He is an avid fisherman and hunter and will be outdoors every chance he can be.

Dr. Kourtney Morrissette
Dr. Kourtney Morrissette graduated from the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004, and moved to West Virginia in 2007. Her interest in animal behavior began when participating in a research internship at Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport, Tennessee, where she studied wolf reproductive behavior. Before joining the team at Hurricane Animal Hospital, she previously practiced at a cat-only hospital in Georgia and maintains a strong focus in feline medicine and behavior. She is also one of the only veterinarians in the area with in depth training in ultrasound diagnostics that includes echocardiograms (Dr Sette vouches that she is the absolute best in a 2 hour radius!). Dr. Morrissette has a wonderful Golden Retriever named Finn and two terrible cats named Jax and Weeble. She recently added two guinea pigs named Oreo and Truffle to her family.

Dr. Emily Moles
For Dr. Emily Moles, veterinary medicine is more than a career—it is a calling that began with one very special puppy. A Culloden, West Virginia, native, Dr. Moles graduated from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2026 and joined our practice shortly thereafter. She is proud to serve pets and families in the community that inspired her journey.
While in high school, Dr. Moles adopted a puppy who was diagnosed with parvovirus. Lifesaving treatment at Hurricane Animal Hospital and Kanawha Valley Emergency Hospital made a lasting impression and inspired her to pursue veterinary medicine. Her beloved companion went on to travel the country with Dr. Moles and her husband, serve as ring bearer at their wedding, and stay by her side through countless hours of studying—more than enough, she joked, to earn an honorary veterinary degree.
Now, we’re honored to welcome Dr. Moles back to the very place where her dream first began. What started with one puppy has come full circle, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her caring for the pets and families of our community.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Moles enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, discovering new coffee shops, and relaxing with her three dogs and two cats.

Dr. Kauri Porter
Born and raised in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, Dr. Kauri Porter discovered her passion for veterinary medicine at an early age. Growing up around a variety of animals and showing goats through 4-H at the Mason County Fair gave her a firsthand appreciation for animal care. Those experiences also inspired her commitment to helping pet owners make informed decisions through compassionate care and clear, thoughtful guidance.
Dr. Porter joined Hurricane Animal Hospital in June 2026. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Nutritional Sciences from West Virginia University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She values building lasting relationships with clients and empowering them to feel confident in their pets’ care. Proud to be back home, she looks forward to serving the animals and families of West Virginia with high-quality, compassionate veterinary medicine.
When she is not in the clinic, Dr. Porter enjoys reading, watching science fiction and fantasy films, spending time outdoors, and relaxing with family. She and her husband share their home with two dogs: Tink, a Chihuahua, and Rudis, a Chiweenie mix.
What People Are Saying
“Top-tier care for all of our pets! It’s so refreshing not to be rushed and to have everything, including costs and alternative treatments, discussed in advance. They genuinely listen to the owner’s concerns, to such an extent that they helped save a 16 year old dog from pancreatitis because they knew it was treatable. The best care one could hope for!” – Joseph Casto
“If you want your pet to be treated by the most caring and kind staff, bring them here. I cannot explain how grateful I am to this staff for treating my kitty so well. The extra snuggles and hugs they give her to make her feel comfortable and less stressed are just the cherry on top of the fantastic care they provide. Best vet in the valley by far.” – Emma S.
“I’ve never visited this clinic in person, but I did reach out to them online with questions about a new cancer test for dogs, after I saw a post they did about it on social media. They responded quickly, with really detailed answers to my questions. They were so nice, that I wanted to leave a good review! Looks like there are lots of other people that feel the same way :)” – Jessica S.
